Camp Nou Event Prompts Valve to Ask About CS2 Major in Argentina

The CEO of tournament organizer FireEsports has revealed that Valve was so impressed by a Counter-Strike event at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium that it asked about hosting a Major in Argentina.

FireEsports has long worked to develop major tournaments in South America, and hosting an event at the legendary football venue proved a key step for the organizers.

According to the company's CEO, it was the scale and quality of this tournament that prompted Valve to take the region's potential much more seriously.

"When we held the tournament at Camp Nou, Valve were very surprised and considered it something special," the FireEsports CEO said.

"They wrote to us: 'Have you ever thought about hosting a Major?'"

The CEO explained that this reaction was particularly revealing because the developers did not simply express a positive opinion but directly asked the organizers about the possibility.

This initiative from Valve substantially changed the context surrounding a potential Major in the region, moving beyond just the tournament operator's desire to host the biggest championship of the season.

Argentina remains the primary focus for FireEsports as a potential location for one of the upcoming Majors, which would be a historic event for the local Counter-Strike scene.

For South America, such a tournament would have significance far beyond a single country. The region already has a massive audience, strong teams, and a rich history in Counter-Strike, but Valve's biggest tournaments have largely bypassed it.

In this context, the Camp Nou event can be viewed as a kind of test. Organizing a tournament at such a famous football stadium required extensive logistics, technical preparation, and the ability to accommodate a large audience.

The organizers managed to demonstrate that they were capable of working not only with traditional esports venues but also of hosting events at world-class locations.

For FireEsports, this successful demonstration is now an important argument in future negotiations. Rather than presenting only a concept for a potential Major, the organizers now have an example of a large-scale event that demonstrates their ability to work with unconventional and major venues.

The possibility of hosting a Major in Argentina does not mean that the tournament is guaranteed to take place. However, the fact that Valve took notice of FireEsports following the Camp Nou event and initiated discussions about a Major makes this prospect considerably more realistic.

If the negotiations eventually lead to an officially confirmed tournament, Camp Nou could be remembered as one of the moments that helped convince Valve of the organizers' potential.
