Formation and Early Dota 2 Years

Team Secret was created in August 2014 after players Puppey and KuroKy were released from Natus Vincere. The new team debuted on August 27, 2014, in a match against Alliance. The 2015 season began with promise, as the team secured third place at the Dota 2 Asia Championships. Following this, they decided to keep their roster and went on to win five premier tournaments in a row. This dominant run made them the favorites to win The International 2015. Their campaign ended in a disappointing 7th-8th place finish, which triggered major changes. Internal conflicts were revealed, with Arteezy and KuroKy clashing before both left the team. Further departures included zai, who took a year off for school, and s4, who returned to Alliance.

For the next competitive cycle, Team Secret built a new roster around EternalEnVy, w33, Misery, Puppey, and pieliedie. This lineup found spectacular success early in 2016. At the Shanghai Major, they fought through the upper bracket, defeating the previous Frankfurt Major winners OG, then Evil Geniuses, and finally Team Liquid. In the grand finals, they faced Team Liquid again in a best-of-five series for a $1.1 million prize. Team Secret won 3-1 to claim their first Major championship.

Roster Instability and Rebuilding

Despite the Shanghai Major victory, 2016 was a year of constant change for the Dota 2 team. Just weeks after winning, they replaced w33 and Misery with Arteezy and Universe. After a last-place finish at the Manila Major in June, Universe was replaced by BuLba. In a more radical move that August, the team announced a completely new roster featuring Asian players MP, MidOne, and Forev alongside the European support duo of pieliedie and Puppey. This experiment was short-lived, as Forev was replaced by offlaner KheZu by November.

The 2017 season brought more challenges. The team achieved no major tournament victories by May and suffered a shocking first-round loss at the Kiev Major to underdogs SG-esports. This led to another change, with YapzOr replacing pieliedie and Puppey moving to the hard support position. While results improved, the team failed to secure a direct invitation to The International 2017. They qualified through the European regionals but were knocked out in a close 2-1 series by the eventual champions, Team Liquid, finishing 9th-12th. Another shuffle in September 2017 brought in Ace and FATA- to replace KheZu and MP.

Return to Dominance and Major Wins

The new roster with Ace and FATA- started the 2017-2018 Dota Pro Circuit season by winning DreamLeague Season 8. While the team secured several minor tournament victories in 2018, they did not win a Major and placed 5th-6th at The International 2018. Another important shuffle followed for the 2018-2019 season, with Ace and FATA- departing. Their replacements were the young carry player Nisha and the returning zai. This lineup became one of the most successful in the organization's history.

At the KL Major, they were top favorites, easily topping their group and racing through the upper bracket. They lost the grand finals in a tense 3-2 series to Virtus.pro after holding a 2-1 lead. The team soon broke through, however, winning both The Chongqing Major and the MDL Disneyland Paris Major. At the Paris Major, they won eight games on the final day, with zai creating space on Mars for Nisha and MidOne to dominate. Nisha led the tournament in last hits at the 35-minute mark. They defeated Team Liquid 3-1 in a convincing grand final. Their success earned them 14,400 DPC points and first place in the seasonal rankings, with Puppey voted the MDL MVP.

Expansion into Tactical Shooters

Team Secret's move into Rainbow Six Siege occurred shortly before the Six Major Paris in 2018 with the signing of Team IDK. The original roster included Elemzje, Lacky, LeonGids, meepeY, sTiZze, and coach Helbee. They placed 3rd-4th at that event, beating OrgLess, FaZe Clan, and Team Vitality, but losing to the champions G2 Esports, earning $25,000. The roster saw changes, such as jNSzki replacing Elemzje in 2020. After the team disbanded in May 2020, Team Secret quickly signed Team OrgLess just days later, as they had qualified for the European League.

In Valorant, Team Secret entered the scene in September 2021 by acquiring the roster of Bren Esports. That team had been the Southeast Asian champions set to compete in the 2021 Stage 3 Masters in Berlin but could not attend due to COVID-19 restrictions and visa issues. Later that year, the squad qualified for the inaugural Valorant Champions tournament, reaching the Top 8 before falling to the eventual winners, Team Acend. Their performance led to Riot Games selecting Team Secret as a partner franchise for the VCT Pacific league in 2023.

The organization also formed a new Counter-Strike 2 team in January 2024. The multinational roster featured Danish players Maze and Tauson, Serbian player Kind0, Israeli player anarkez, and Polish player innocent.

League of Legends and Pacific Acquisition

Team Secret established a League of Legends division in 2020 by acquiring a Vietnam Championship Series spot from Lowkey Esports. They competed in the VCS until 2024, when the league was restructured as a tier-two circuit to make way for the new League of Legends Championship Pacific. Team Secret was not on the initial list of teams for the LCP. However, in December 2024, the organization acquired Team Whales, a team that had received an LCP invitation. The acquired team was subsequently rebranded as Secret Whales, securing Team Secret's place in the top Pacific league.

Broad Multi-Game Portfolio

Beyond its primary teams, Team Secret has consistently invested in a wide array of games. In 2016, they picked up an international female Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team and entered the fighting game community by signing Street Fighter player Poongko and Super Smash Bros. Melee player Silent Wolf. In July 2018, they entered competitive Age of Empires 2 by acquiring key members from Team TyRanT.

The organization also maintains active rosters in mobile esports like PUBG Mobile and League of Legends: Wild Rift. In Rocket League, Team Secret acquired the roster of Erased in February 2023, which included players Sad, math, and nxghtt. The lineup was adjusted later that year, with math being removed and kv1 joining in October.
