G2 Esports Stumble Against Dplus KIA in LoL Worlds Swiss Stage Opener
The LEC champions failed to close out a comfortable lead, ending the league's undefeated start to the tournament.

G2 Esports lost their opening match of the League of Legends World Championship Swiss stage to LCK fourth seed Dplus KIA on October 20.
The LEC champions failed to capitalise on what looked like a comfortable lead, ending the league's early undefeated streak at the tournament.
"It should have been an easy win for G2," one report noted, as the team was coasting on a solid gold lead without giving up a single kill due to DK's poor engages.
However, G2 failed to close out the game and allowed their LCK opponents to stall out and find the fight they needed.
G2 had excellent control of the map but repeatedly failed to secure objectives.
"And it didn’t help that the team repeatedly brought Sergen 'BrokenBlade' Çelik to Baron before he could fix the top lane waves," the report stated.
Eventually, DK's persistent team fight attempts paid off, and they found the fight they needed.
A huge Poppy ultimate by Oh 'Career' Hyeong-seok separated G2, allowing his teammates to run them over and find three kills.
Then, despite G2 having two players alive with Baron Buff, DK still rushed forward into their base and ended the game.
Reigning Esports World Cup champions DK will likely be unsatisfied with their performance but relieved they managed to comeback.
Polymarket users only give G2 a 4% chance of winning the tournament.
G2 will be especially frustrated after Movistar KOI's surprise win over BLG and Karmine Corp's impressive win over LPL Champions Anyone's Legend.
"It’s only Day 1 of the LoL Worlds Main Event but the battle of the LEC and LPL’s #2 seeds, MKOI vs BLG, was match of the tournament so far," the report said.
Karmine Corp kept their LoL Worlds form from the Play-Ins with an impressive upset over the LPL champions Anyone’s Legend.
Usually, losing the first round wouldn't be so bad, but all four LPL teams are in the 0-1 bracket too, and G2 does not have a great record versus Chinese opposition.
Yet, G2 could potentially already be in trouble at the League of Legends World Championship.
Redington Cybersport reported in October that G2 had a 3-1 series record against LCK teams this year but lost to DK at the Esports World Cup.
