Wolves Esports Opens VCT Threshold China 2026 with 2-0 Win Over A Team
The victory keeps alive Wolves' path back to VCT China after losing its partner status for the 2027-2028 cycle.

Wolves Esports opened its VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign with a 2-0 win over A Team in Shanghai on Wednesday, October 21.
The victory keeps alive the team's route back into VCT China for 2027 after it lost its partner status for the next cycle.
Wolves took the first map in 43 minutes and closed out the series with a 54-minute win on the second map, finishing the series without a deciding map.
The win was the second for Wolves over A Team in 2026, having also won 2-1 when the sides met in VCT China Stage 2 on August 8.
The stakes for Wolves are high, as the team is one of four current VCT China partners to lose partner status for the 2027-2028 cycle, according to Sheep Esports.
FunPlus Phoenix, Nova Esports and Titan Esports Club are the other three teams that lost partner status, with China dropping from ten partners to eight for that cycle.
Threshold China now offers the club a way back, as the event replaces Valorant Challengers and follows the old Ascension format, with two teams set to join VCT China as 2027 guest teams.
Thirteen teams are playing at THE HUB Performing Arts Center in Shanghai, with Week 1 featuring a single-elimination bracket of five VCT China teams and seven national teams.
The winner of Week 1 earns a 2027 VCT China place, while losers move into a Week 2 single-elimination playoff from October 27 to November 1, where one more national team will join them.
Every match is best of three except the grand finals, which are best of five, and the prize pool is still listed as to be confirmed.
Wolves arrived in Shanghai with mixed form, having lost 0-2 to KeepBest Gaming in China Evolution Series Act 3 and suffering defeats to EDward Gaming, Dragon Ranger Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix in Stage 2.
The win over A Team ends a run of two straight defeats for Wolves, who had won just one of their previous five series.
For A Team, the defeat marks a fourth series loss in a row, following losses to Trace Esports, Wolves and FunPlus Phoenix in recent competitions.
Wolves sit at rank 245 in the Elo power rankings with a rating of 1389, built on a 39-51 record across 90 rated matches, while A Team went into the event unranked.
The Wolves roster is Spring, yosemite, Deryeon, aluba and glacier, with German coach Alexander ‘alexRr’ Frisch as head coach, while A Team fielded monk, Eren, Folykiki, Dingwei and Layla.
The quarter-final against KeepBest Gaming on Thursday, October 22 gives Wolves a quick chance to reverse their Act 3 defeat.
The winner moves a step closer to the 2027 VCT China slot on offer, with the Week 1 final set for October 25.
Redington Cybersport reported in October that eight teams are set for VCT China partner slots in 2027, with four current partners missing out.
