SBC Summit Europe to Focus on Fragmented Regulatory Landscape

SBC Summit Europe will take place at RAI Amsterdam from 19-21 April 2027 as a meeting point for the continent's interconnected but fragmented iGaming industry.

The event is designed around Europe's many regulated markets, each with its own licensing, tax and player protection rules.

"Much more useful when you have the people responsible for making the decisions in the room," said SBC CEO and Founder Rasmus Sojmark.

The number of European markets with multi-licensing systems for online gambling grew from seven in 2009 to 27 by 2024, according to the European Gaming and Betting Association.

SBC Summit Europe aims to bridge the perspective between regulators and the businesses they oversee, with more than 3,000 operator representatives expected.

It also seeks to foster dialogue among regulators from different jurisdictions, supported by partnerships with the International Association of Gaming Regulators and the International Masters of Gaming Law.

The conference will feature dedicated sessions on individual markets alongside broader discussions on cross-border trends.

The event positions the strength of the licensed offering as a player protection issue, linking regulation to market competitiveness and channelisation.

Europe is a collection of regulated markets, each at a different stage of its journey, with some regulated for over a decade and others opening up now.

Operators hold licences in several jurisdictions at once, while regulators in different countries wrestle with the same questions often without comparing notes.

The event is meeting-led, not just content-led, with the real value being the conversion of insight into conversations, relationships and commercial outcomes.

It is intended as an annual moment for the industry to take stock, look ahead and make decisions, with the ambition for Amsterdam to become a recurring home.

Taxation, advertising restrictions, player protection, affordability, licensing, compliance and channelisation are changing how businesses operate across the continent.

These questions are being answered market by market, in parallel, and the answers are rarely shared openly, which is the strategic justification for bringing everyone together.

For an operator, the event is a place to understand new markets, see how regulatory thinking is developing, and meet the regulators, peers and partners who influence what they can do next.

The starting point is a simple reality: demand for gambling exists whether or not a licensed market is there to serve it.

When players cannot find an attractive, competitive regulated offering, they often go to operators that offer no consumer protection, no safer gambling tools and no accountability.

A regulated market only protects people if players actually choose it.
