Chinese groom wins Valorant match to earn right to marry bride

A groom in China had to defeat his bride in a game of Valorant before he could take her to their wedding ceremony.

The challenge was part of a traditional Chinese pre-wedding custom known as a "door game," where the groom must complete tasks set by the bride and her bridesmaids.

A video of the couple facing off, with the bride in full wedding attire and hair ornaments, has garnered nearly three million views in one day.

The official Valorant Instagram account commented on the viral clip, saying, "Wait, the wife is lowkey locked in."

One viewer joked online, "The problem is if he wins, she will remember it for life, and he would not hear the end of it, but if he doesn’t, it would be near impossible to find another gem like her," while another called it the true definition of "skill-based matchmaking."

The CEO of professional esports team GAM also reacted, asking, "How do we sign her?"

Traditionally, door games are silly tasks organized by bridesmaids that the groom must complete to "earn" the right to marry his bride, often involving eating unusual foods, athletic challenges, or trivia.

In this case, the couple reportedly enjoys playing Valorant together, so the bridesmaids decided to put his gaming skills to the test.

The groom managed to emerge victorious, successfully completing the challenge.

This is not the first gaming-themed wedding to go viral; a Chinese couple made headlines in 2023 after turning their wedding into a League of Legends competition, with the bride defeating her husband and his wedding party.

In February 2026, another gaming couple went viral after inviting Sony to their wedding, with PlayStation responding with free games and a congratulatory card.

A separate viral wedding in 2024 saw a streamer couple hold a Black Ops 6-themed wedding at the Call of Duty Next event in Washington, D.C.
