Gen.G sweeps LYON to reach Worlds 2026 semifinals, ends North America's run
The LCK top seed will face Invictus Gaming in the semifinals, one series away from their first Worlds final.

Gen.G swept LYON 3-0 in the League of Legends Worlds 2026 quarterfinals on November 4 in Allen, Texas, eliminating North America's last remaining team.
The LCK top seed will face Invictus Gaming in a best-of-five semifinal on Saturday, starting at 16:00 Central Time.
Gen.G entered the series with the better record, giving them first choice of side, and they picked and stayed on blue side for all three games.
LYON found early openings in game one, but Gen.G recovered to win in about 32 minutes with a 19-8 kill lead.
Ruler helped drive the second game with two kills on Ashe, Canyon added a dragon steal on Jarvan IV, and Gen.G used Baron buff to break into LYON's base in the shortest game of the series.
LYON found teamfight wins in game three, but a mistake around the Dragon Soul fight returned control to Gen.G, who secured Baron and finished with an ace without losing a player.
Canyon was named player of the series.
For LYON, the exit marks clear progress, as they finish in joint fifth to eighth place.
GosuGamers called it easily the organization's best Worlds finish, as in four earlier appearances LYON never placed higher than 17th.
Their elimination means North America will have no representative in the semifinals or Grand Final.
Reaching the last four secures Gen.G at least third or fourth place, a familiar stopping point for the organization.
It has finished third or fourth at four of its last five Worlds and has never played in a Worlds final, GosuGamers reported.
The win puts Gen.G in a Worlds semifinal for the third consecutive year.
Their opponents, Invictus Gaming, beat Top Esports 3-1 in the opening quarterfinal, putting iG into their first Worlds semifinal since 2019.
TheShy and Rookie, who won Worlds with iG in 2018, are back in the last four.
The teams have already met at this tournament, with Gen.G winning their opening Swiss Stage match against Invictus Gaming 1-0. Redington Cybersport reported in October that Gen.G had reverse-swept LYON 2-1 in a Swiss Stage match, with that one LYON win being the only game Gen.G conceded during that stage.
LYON reached the quarterfinal through a 3-2 Swiss Stage record, marking their first appearance in a Worlds knockout stage.
The stakes go beyond one team, as Korean sides are chasing a fifth Summoner's Cup in a row.
The money rises sharply from here, with Worlds 2026 carrying a US$5,000,000 prize pool.
The champion takes US$1,000,000, and the runner-up receives US$800,000.
The Grand Final is listed for 14:00 EST on November 14.
The British Esports Federation is holding a watch party at the new British Arena in Sunderland, the venue's first esports watch party, running from 5:30pm on the day of the final until 1:00am on November 15.
