Valve Releases Tidehunter Arcana in New Trove of Terror Treasure
The Maw of the Megalodon cosmetic is available through a new treasure that could cost players up to $200 to unlock all content.

Valve has released a new Arcana for Tidehunter in Dota 2, marking the first new release of the game's rarest cosmetic tier since 2024.
The Maw of the Megalodon Arcana transforms the hero into a shark and is contained within the new Trove of Terror treasure chest.
"This is exactly what players expect from Valve’s highest tier of Dota 2 cosmetic, a new lease of life on the Hero that turns them from goofy to gallant, and makes every other skin they have look poor by comparison," the reporting notes state.
The Arcana features "new effects, new accessories, new taunts, three styles, and the juicy narrative detail that Tidehunter is dragging the corpse of Kunkka behind him."
The treasure costs $4.99, with regional pricing around 4.39 Euros or £3.39.
It contains 17 sets in total: 16 Immortal sets and the Arcana.
The items are categorized as two Rares, one Very Rare, and two Super Rare, with the Arcana included in the Super Rare tier.
To obtain all skins, players are likely looking at opening around 20 chests, the notes indicate.
A ward skin unlocks after purchasing 12 chests, which would cost about $60.
A Roshan skin unlocks after 40 chests, a potential $200 investment.
There is no guarantee of receiving the Arcana, meaning players could spend hundreds without obtaining it.
"Since Valve packed up the Battle Passes, Arcanas have been able to be grabbed for about $40," the notes state, referencing the recent Crownfall event where Arcanas sold for $34.99.
Prior to the discontinuation of Battle Passes, Arcanas were tied to pass levels.
"The average price of an Arcana back then was between $150-$250 dollars, depending on how much grinding and purchases you were making proportionally," according to the notes.
This means the Tidehunter Arcana's potential cost is in line with previous battle pass-based Arcanas.
Players have a random chance to get the Arcana on their first chest purchase, and recycling duplicates could lower the cost of obtaining the Roshan skin.
"Overall, these sets in the treasure are incredible, and the Arcana is the pièce de résistance," the notes state.
The notes conclude that while individual sets may be worth $5, "we really don’t think a Roshan skin or the gamble for the Arcana is worth around $200 for most people."
