ESL One Munich 2027 announced with $1 million Dota 2 prize pool
The tournament will feature 16 teams competing at BMW Park from April 4–11, 2027.

ESL FACEIT Group has announced ESL One Munich 2027, a Dota 2 tournament with a $1 million prize pool for 16 teams from April 4 to 11, 2027.
The live arena action will take place at BMW Park in Munich from April 9 to 11.
Tobias Fjellander, Senior Product Manager for Dota 2 at ESL FACEIT Group, said the event builds on the momentum from ESL One Birmingham earlier in 2026.
"ESL One has a long history of bringing the world’s best Dota 2 teams and fans together, and we’re excited to add Munich to that legacy," Fjellander said.
He added that the team wants to explore new production ideas at BMW Park while maintaining the series' competitive standards and live atmosphere.
The $1,000,000 prize pool is the largest of the ESL Pro Tour season, according to ESL FACEIT Group.
The tournament is positioned as a premier midseason event and a key qualifier on the road to the Esports World Cup 2027.
BMW Park will be fitted with interactive LED flooring intended to offer fan-first live audience engagement and bring the competition closer to the live audience.
Dr. Fabian Mehring, Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs, welcomed the announcement.
"In April 2027, Munich will become the beating heart of the global Dota 2 community. We’re thrilled to welcome ESL One and the world’s top teams to Bavaria!" Mehring said.
He highlighted the role esports plays in bringing people together through teamwork, strategy and competition.
Mehring also pointed to Bavaria’s investment in gaming, esports clubs and major events as part of its ambition to support the industry.
Dr. Christian Scharpf, Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development for the City of Munich, also welcomed the tournament.
"This is esports at its best: world-class players competing live in front of an audience at the BMW Park," Scharpf said.
He highlighted Munich’s technology sector and BMW Park’s sporting heritage as a strong combination for hosting a major esports event.
The event is set to be a major fixture in the ESL Pro Tour season, giving teams another important opportunity to compete at the highest level.
ESL FACEIT Group said the ESL One series ranks second only to the world championship in Dota 2.
The group's international broadcasts reach audiences across multiple languages and channels, with ESL One broadcast in over 15 languages on more than 60 channels.
Ticket sales information, broadcast schedules and details of local fan activities have not yet been announced.
Organisers say further information will be shared in the coming months.
