TheGrefg

Early Career and Rise to Fame

David Cánovas Martínez was born in Alhama de Murcia, Spain. He started his YouTube channel on 30 January 2012 when he was 14 years old. His early content was based on his childhood interest in video games, which laid the foundation for his future career as a full-time creator.

His popularity grew steadily over the years, leading him to become one of the most subscribed Spanish channels on the platform. In 2018, he moved to Andorra, a decision reportedly related to taxation. By 2020, his influence was substantial enough to be recognized by major industry players.

The Fortnite Skin and Streaming Records

A defining moment in TheGrefg's career came in January 2020 when Epic Games announced he would receive his own cosmetic outfit in Fortnite. This placed him in a select group of real-life personalities like Ninja and Loserfruit to be featured in the game. The live presentation of this skin on 11 January 2021 became a historic event.

During that stream, his Twitch channel achieved a peak concurrent viewership of 2,468,668 people. This extraordinary number earned him the Guinness World Record for the most concurrent viewers on a Twitch stream at that time. The record highlighted his massive pull and the cultural weight of streaming events, though it was later broken in 2022 by Ibai Llanos.

Diversified Career as an Author and Presenter

Beyond his digital presence, TheGrefg has established himself as an author. He has written three books. His first book, a fiction title called 'Rescate en White Angel (The G-Squad)', was released in 2017. He followed this with 'Los secretos de YouTube' in 2018, and a collaborative esports guide titled 'Todo lo que necesitas saber sobre esports' with Goorgo and MethodzSick in June 2019.

He has also worked in television, co-presenting the program Top Gamers Academy alongside fellow Spanish creators Willyrex and El Rubius. In January 2022, he took on a major hosting role by holding the ESLAND Awards ceremony, an event created to recognize achievements within the Spanish-speaking content creation community.

Music, Business Ventures and Esports Role

TheGrefg has released music to celebrate his channel milestones. His first song, 'Gracias a ti', marked reaching 4 million subscribers. For 10 million subscribers, he released another track in collaboration with Zarcort and Piter-G. He also created a song titled 'Calvaland' to promote his Minecraft series of the same name.

In the business sphere, he is the owner of Grefito SLU, a real estate company based in Escaldes, Andorra. Professionally, he is deeply connected to esports as a Fortnite content creator for the Spanish organization Team Heretics. His streaming excellence led to a nomination for the Esports Awards Streamer of the Year.

Media Recognition and Personal Life

Forbes Spain has consistently acknowledged TheGrefg's impact. In October 2020, the magazine included him as the sixth top influencer in Spain for that year. His position was further confirmed in April 2021 when he was featured on a cover of Forbes magazine.

In his personal life, he was in a relationship with Gemma Gallardo from 2018 until they split in mid-2022. As of 2024, he is in a relationship with Sofía Fitness. He is also scheduled to participate in the high-profile streaming boxing event La Velada del Año V against Westcol in July 2025 at the Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla.
