DrLupo

Early Career and Rise to Prominence

Benjamin Lupo began his streaming career with the game Destiny before finding a larger audience in the battle royale genre. He played games like H1Z1 before his channel saw significant growth after he started playing Fortnite. His collaborative streams with other top creators like Ninja, Myth, and TimTheTatman helped confirm his place in the community.

In 2018, Lupo achieved a notable in-game feat by breaking the Fortnite world record for vehicle trick points, scoring over 65 million points with the Quadcrasher. His professional esports career also included being the captain of the Fortnite team for the organization Rogue.

Content Creation and Platform Moves

DrLupo established himself as a major live streamer, known for his engaging personality and skilled gameplay. In December 2019, he signed an exclusive deal with Twitch, confirming his status on the platform. This exclusivity lasted until August 2021, when he moved to YouTube under a new exclusive contract as a content producer.

After his YouTube contract expired, Lupo returned to streaming on Twitch in September 2024. Throughout his career, he has described himself as an old man who yells at video games, a father, husband, and gamer from the Midwest who typically plays first-person shooter games but dabbles in a variety of titles.

Philanthropic Impact and Charity Work

DrLupo's philanthropic efforts are a central and defining part of his public identity. His charity work is deeply tied to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 2018 alone, he raised 600,000 dollars for the hospital. The following year, he set and surpassed an ambitious goal, ultimately raising 2.3 million dollars.

From 2018 through 2022, his combined group and personal charity streams raised over 13 million dollars for St. Jude. A key annual event is a 24-hour live stream each December, which he has hosted from the hospital campus itself, directly engaging his community for the cause.

Diverse Gaming Ventures and Notable Events

Beyond Fortnite, DrLupo has explored and excelled in a wide array of games. In 2020, he began playing Escape from Tarkov, praising it as an unusual title that could be played in multiple ways. He has also been considered by some to be the world's best player at Fall Guys.

He participated in high-profile collaborative streams, such as a 2020 Among Us session organized as a get out the vote event with politicians including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, alongside streamers like Pokimane and Disguised Toast. His gaming pursuits extended to chess in 2025.

The PogChamps Chess Controversy

In April 2025, DrLupo competed in the Chess.com PogChamps tournament, which featured a 100,000 dollar prize pool and other content creators. During the event, his play sparked discussions within the chess community and on social media, with speculation that he might have been cheating.

Lupo addressed the allegations first on his broadcast and then publicly the next day. He issued an apology for cheating and explained the circumstances around the game. In the aftermath, he offered to fund a future PogChamps tournament or donate 100,000 dollars to a chess-related charity as a form of restitution.

Legacy and Community Perception

DrLupo is widely viewed as a positive and professional face for competitive Fortnite and streaming. Fans and observers note his dedication, hard work, and consistent, non-toxic demeanor, as he is known for never raging during streams. His ability to balance high-level gameplay with massive charitable initiatives has earned him significant respect.

His influence extended into mainstream sponsorship, as he became the first individual professional esports athlete to be sponsored by State Farm while serving as captain for Rogue's Fortnite team. This landmark deal highlighted the growing convergence of esports, content creation, and traditional corporate partnerships.
